In what is seen as a symbolic passing of the torch, Nigerian wrestler Oba Femi, defeated The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, in night 2, of Wrestlemania 42, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the early hours of this morning, to announce his arrival at the top hierarchy of WWE superstars.
The fight between the duo, had been hyped to the heavens, as a meeting between the new and the old. In characteristic fashion, Lesnar came out smoking, unleashing his entire arsenal of suplexes and F5’s, on Oba, who absorbed the barrage of attacks, and took it in his strides to the surprise of Lesnar himself. As the fight wore on however, Oba began to assert himself. In a surprise climax however, after receiving an F5 from Lesnar, Oba rose, choke slammed Lesnar, before delivering his trademark ‘Fall From Grace’ finisher, for a 1, 2, 3, count from the referee.
This victory cements Oba Femi’s place in the WWE, as the next big thing. Symbolically, Lesnar left his gear in the middle of the ring after the fight, to signal the end of his illustrious WWE career, and a passing of the torch to Oba Femi. There had been speculations about Lesnar’s career, following accusations linking him with former WWE chairman, Vince McMahon, as being involved in sexual assault, rape, and pimping, by a former WWE employer. It is befitting, therefore, that Lesnar gets to retire from the WWE on his own terms. He must also be appreciated for choosing a rising star like Oba Femi, to pass the torch to, it’s an indication that Lesnar and the WWE see something special in Oba Femi.
In other result of matches from night 2 of Wrestlemania 42, Roman Reigns defeated CM Punk, to become the new WWE heavyweight champion, and in characteristic fashion, Oba Femi, wasted little time in calling out Reigns for a title match. Rhea Ripley, also beat Jade Cargill, to claim the women’s heavyweight title, with Gunther defeating Seth Rollins, in a grudge match, with some help from Bron Breaker.
It is hoped that Oba Femi, will live up to the hype and rise to the top of the WWE. Outside being a superstar, the WWE can open many doors, like in Hollywood, where the late Hulk Hogan, made his mark. Dwayne ‘the rock’ Johnson, John Cena, and Gabriel Bautista, have equally gone on to cement their places in Hollywood, off the back of their successes in the WWE. We thank Brock Lesnar for anointing Oba Femi, while wishing Femi the very best.
