The African Union Sports Council (AUSC), Region 02, has named football legend and former Super Eagles Manager, Samson Siasia, as its goodwill ambassador. In an elaborate induction ceremony, held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, the Secretary General of the AUSC Region 2, Chief Michael Mustapha, told newsmen, that Siasia emerged as the choice candidate for the position, after a rigorous nomination and screening exercise. According to Mustapha, after a rigorous nomination exercise, Samson Siasia, emerged as the candidate who possessed the necessary credentials, personality, and clout, required to project the image of the AUSC Region 2, in its renewed quest to reposition sports in West Africa.
Mustapha told newsmen, that Siasia, is expected to leverage his vast experience in sports management, as well as his image, and goodwill as a football legend, to positively impact sports development, and other activities of AUSC Region 2, within the West African sub-region. Similarly, International Marketing expert, and Rugby football exponent, Segun Maku, was also unveiled by the AUSC, as it’s marketing consultant, as the AUSC Region 2, bids to ramp up efforts at bringing African grassroots sports to international prominence.
Dignitaries at the event, included the former Attorney-General of Kogi State, and retired Director at EFCC, Mr. Ben Ikani; former Chairman Gombe State Sports Commission, Mr. Larry Daniel; the Special Envoy to West Africa on human Rights Protection service, Hon. Dr. Charles Omini; eminent legal practitioner, Barrister Manny Ikpebe, Esquire; Ambassador Onoriode Oma; former Super Eagles striker and team coordinator, Mr. Patrick Pascal; members of the sporting press; family and friends of the inductees; and other distinguished personalities.
At the end of the investiture, Ambassador Samson Siasia, and Segun Maku, commended the leadership of the AUSC Region 2, for finding them worthy of such prestigious appointments. They promised to bring their wealth of knowledge and experience to bear on the activities of the AUSC Region 2, by making its engagements more visible, and productive, with a view to ultimately making Region 2, the envy of the other AUSC regions.
It may interest you to know, that the AUSC, is an organ of the African Union (AU), and an affiliate of the International Olympics Committee, IOC. It is the organ through which the AU, promotes sports development on the African continent. We wish Ambassador Samson Siasia and Segun Maku, the very best in their new positions.
