In the early hours of this morning, Nigerian heavyweight boxer, Efe Ajagba, in his characteristic heavy punching style, took out former IBF heavyweight champion, Charles Martin, in round 4 of a proposed 12 round bout.
The fight was even in the first two rounds, but Ajagba who is bidding to become a top 10 contender in the heavyweight ranks stepped up his game in the 3rd round by sending Martin to the canvas. Martin survived the count and threw a few good punches thereafter. In the 4th round however, Efe put Martin down again, and he survived. A flurry of left and right heavy punches from Ajagba, with Martin obviously happy to end the night early, convinced the referee to wave off the fight, to hand Ajagba the victory.
This was Ajagba’s first fight under Zuffa Promotions, following the termination of his contract with Top Rank Promotions last year. After an unfavorable judging in his fight with Martin Bakole, which ended in a majority draw, 95/95 in May 2025, with Efe winning on the 3rd judges card 96/94, Top Rank proposed a rematch with Frank Sanchez, who handed Efe his only defeat to date in 2021, but disagreements over the purse, however, led Efe to quit Top Rank and pitch his tent with Zuffa promotions.
It is believed that his latest victory should catapult him into the top 10 rankings in the heavyweight division. Kjnnetwork.com reports, however, that while Efe was effective with his heavy punching, if he is to rub shoulders with the likes of Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois, and the like, with the hope of being crowned World Heavyweight Champion in any of the promotions, he needs to improve his footwork, and general in-ring craftsmanship. All the best to him.
