DELTA DOMINATES AGAIN, WINS OGUN 2025.

Ernest Osogbue

Delta State once again showcased her dominance in Nigerian sports by cruising to the top of the medals table in majestic fashion at the end of the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games, Ogun 2024.

At the early stages of the competition, a few states were perching around hoping to upset ‘the home of sports,’ but in the end Delta States investment in sports over the years, and her commitment to athletes welfare once again propelled her to the top of the standing on the medals table.

Posting a massive 126 gold, 100 silver and 111 bronze medals, Delta state proved that there’s unity in diversity, as it successfully defended its perennial crown.

Hosts, Ogun State, surprisingly came second with 93 gold, 65 silver, and 80 bronze medals to edge early pacesetters Bayelsa State into third place. Edo State, a former sports powerhouse, was consigned to the 5th spot as Rivers State occupies the 4th position.

There’s an emerging trend that the Niger Delta is building itself up as the repository of sporting talents in Nigeria. As the other regions engage in destructive politics, Niger Delta leaders are busy bringing their youths together to lead the way in the emergence of a powerful, prosperous, and indivisible Nigeria.

Congratulations to all the athletes, and congratulations to Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Edo States for continuing to showcase the resilience of the Niger Delta spirit.
